NIGERIA'S RELATIONS WITH MIDDLE EAST AND THE GULF
Relations between Nigeria and countries of the Middle East and the Gulf region were invariably impacted by recent political developments across the Arab world. Notwithstanding, Nigeria continued to enjoy full collaboration with many of these countries, which are in fact her traditional friends and allies. It was in demonstration of this affinity that Nigeria established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with the State of Qatar. It was for the same reasons that Nigeria participated in several meetings at the highest level in Doha, including the Vice President’s participation at the First Gas Summit held in Doha, in November 2011. On that occasion, the Vice President, Arch. Namadi Sambo, held bilateral discussion with Qatrai officials on issues of mutual interest. Similarly, a strong team of Nigerian officials participated actively in UNCTAD XIII which took place in Doha in April 2012.
