Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mustapha Lawal Sulaiman, received in audience Mr. David Nieves Caraballo, Charge D’affaires of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Nigeria, in his office on Thursday 6 December 2018 on a courtesy visit.

The Permanent Secretary, H.E Ambassador Mustapha L. Sulaiman, received in audience, the Charge d’ Affaires of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Nigeria,
Mr. David Nieves Caraballo on 6th December, 2018. Mr. David Caraballo commended the strong bilateral relations between both countries,
and noted the various outstanding Agreements/MoUs between both countries that needed to be concluded between both countries and suggested the hosting of a Joint Commission to sign these agreements. He stated that the signing of these Agreements/MoUs will further consolidate on the economic prosperity of both countries.

  1. Mr. David Nieves Caraballo expressed his government’s intention to send an election monitoring delegation to Nigeria for the upcoming 2019 General Elections and also indicated the need for frequent political consultation meetings between officials of both countries.
  2. The Permanent Secretary commended the cordial relationship between both countries and highlighted the high level visits recorded in the past reiterating the need to further strengthen the relationship. He reassured Mr. David Nieves Caraballo of Nigeria’s commitment to conclude on the outstanding MOUs within the appropriate Joint Commission Framework.

4.       The Permanent Secretary indicated the need for the Venezuelan Mission to consult with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and explore the possibility of collaborating in the upcoming 2019 General Elections under Observer status. The Permanent Secretary expressed H.E President Muhammadu Buhari’s assurance in the transparency of the electoral process. He noted that the security situation in the northeast is not election-related and nits relationship with the election is very remote. He further assured of the commitment of all the various security agencies in ensuring peace and cooperation in the upcoming elections.
