Nigeria continued to be an active member of the Commonwealth of Nations, The primary objective of its membership is to cultivate the organization in such a manner that would promote Nigeria’s political, socio-economic agenda, Accordingly, President Goodluck Jonathan led Nigeria’s delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Summit which took place in Perth, Australia in November 2011.

Furthermore, Nigeria is a’ member of the Commonwealth Ministerial Taskforce of Twelve Foreign Minister on the Reform of theCommonwealth. In this capacity, Nigeria has continued to participate actively in the meetings convened to consider the draft charter of the  Commonwealth among other proposals intended to re- position the organisation in line with the recommendation  of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG).
