Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mustapha Lawal Sulaiman, received in audience His Excellency, Jon Tong Chol, Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Nigeria, in his office on Monday 3 December 2018 on a courtesy visit.
The Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Mustapha Lawal Sulaiman, received in audience, the Ambassador of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to Nigeria, H.E Mr. Jon Tong Chol on 3rd December, 2018. The Ambassador Jon Tong Chol expressed optimism in the cordial relations between both countries. He stated that Nigeria and North Korea have long standing bilateral relations, intimating that, present and past leaders of North Korea have immensely contributed to the existing warm relations.
- Ambassador Chol acknowledged Nigeria’s statement on the outcome of the USA-North Korea and Inter Korean summits on peace and security in the Korean peninsula and informed that North Korea has been supporting Nigeria in its quest for economic diversification and the fight against insurgency. The Ambassador further highlighted the need to hold the Nigeria-North Korea Joint Commission.
- The Permanent Secretary expressed Nigeria’s commitment to the proposed Joint Commission meeting and stated that outstanding (MOUs)/Agreements between the two countries would be considered at a mutually agreed date. The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed the Ministry’s resolve to follow up on the issues raised and continued engagements with the Embassy in forging stronger relations.
